How is it, it took Kakorot so long to become a Super Sayian, it took Vegeta forever to achieve, Gohan had rage to help him.. Now how did Goten (Age 7) being trained by Chi Chi and Trunks (Age 8) get to Super Sayian? I know Vegeta and Kakorot trained way harder |

Nothings really confirmed, but it's possibly because their father's were Super Saiyans when they were conceived, so they could attain the transformation younger and easier. That's one of the theories anyway. |

^ Agree. Vegeta said that the last Super Saiyan destroyed himself with his own power, so he was never able to reproduce and keep that 'gene' going. (Can't think of a better word.) So to me, it only makes sense that if someone who achieved it reproduced, his offspring would also be able to achieve it, also much easier, because the 'gene' is already in their system. I would imagine it's sorta like, inheritance. Hereditary maybe? :P Edited by Ricky, Dec 24 2011, 01:57 PM.

A popular theory (though I still don't like that there are SSJ 7 and 8 year olds) is that the human portions of half-saiyans carry the ability to experience the powerful emotions needed to turn SSJ. Saiyans (not really Goku) aren't the most emotional types compared to humans. So, the human emotions allow the Saiyan SSJ form to come about more easily. Maybe Goten was grounded and got upset or something. |
Now, there's an idea. | |

Was the Goten - ChiChi sparring scene filler? I thought that was how he transformed. |

It was filler. In story explanation was never given. But Gohan and Vegeta remarked how surprised they were it happened. Real world explanation is AT wanted Trunks and Goten to be central characters, and being a SSJ is a prerequisite for being important in DBZ at that stage in the manga and anime. |

I don't think you'll really find any satisfiable explanation that doesn't break the fourth wall. The fact that it isn't treated as any big deal, with Goten not even remembering how he attained the form when asked, seems to be the intended humor in itself. Poking fun at the whole Super Saiyan legend, which took the others unbearable hardship. The Buu arc had a less serious tone than the direction the story had taken just prior and it appeared Toriyama was writing it closer to its gag manga roots. So Goten and Trunks were likely being established as comedic relief characters, which essentially aren't bound by logic. The closest to some in-universe justification you'd probably get is from just going by what is stated about Saiyan hybrids: Chapter: 204 (DBZ 10), P12.1-2 Vegeta: “At any rate, the battle power of Kakarrot’s son is unusually high, even by the standards of Saiyan children.” Nappa: “Maybe his reading was wrong.” Vegeta: “No, it wasn’t wrong. Raditz really took a large amount of damage from that brat’s attack. It seems that mixing Saiyan and Earthling blood begets a powerful hybrid.” They weren't just ordinary Super Saiyans though, they were strong ones at that. And all without having to work for it. |

To quote Piccolami from another thread from a while ago:
Kid Trunks and Kid Goten becoming SSJ so easy is one of my major pet peeves of the series, but I'll just go with the theory that the SSJ DNA was already present in their fathers during their conception, which made it easier for them. |

The DNA/inheritance theory is just looking for a way to explain a confusing situation. Has Vegeta even achieved SSJ when Trunks is conceived? Going from the timeline Trunks would have been conceived roughly 1 year after future Trunks killed Frieza and the first time we see a SSJ Vegeta is vs the androids. There is no logical explanation for it imo, it was just that the story line with fusion/Gotenks required Goten/Trunks to be strong or fusion would have been pointless. |

Yes, I'm also on the opinion that it's simply plot-based, most things on Buu Saga were like that. |

Just because he couldn't hold the transformation doesn't mean the form was present in hisndna. Maybe he was so close and actually broke through, but just couldn't hold it like when Gohan or Trunks both first almost have it |
